    Cake size guide

Ordering a cake should be the easy part of planning a celebration. Then you reach the size dropdown and realise you have no idea whether 1kg feeds ten people or twenty.

Here is how we work it out, and how you can too.

    The short version

One kilo of cake gives you eight to ten dessert-sized slices, or six to eight generous ones. That ratio holds across every size we bake, so you can scale it up or down in your head.

If you remember nothing else from this page, remember that.

    What each size serves

Every cake we bake is 100% plant-based, and these numbers are the same whether you choose classic, gluten-free, refined sugar-free or sugar-free.

Size Dessert slices Generous slices Typically for
Bento (200g) 3 2 Two of you, or a desk celebration
    500g 4–6 3–4 A small family evening
1kg 8–10 6–8 Dinner at home, close family
    1.5kg 12–15 9–12 A birthday with friends over
    2kg 16–20 12–16 A proper party
2.5kg 20–25 16–20 Large party or office floor
    3kg 24–30 20–24 Big gathering
    4kg 32–40 26–32 Reception or large function
    5kg 40–50 33–40 Weddings, corporate events

Dessert slices are the ones you get on a plate with a fork after dinner, roughly 100g. Generous slices are what people cut at home when nobody is watching, closer to 130g.

The mistake almost everyone makes at a kids’ party

When someone tells us they are expecting twenty guests at a child’s birthday, they are almost always counting the children.

They are not counting the fifteen parents who stay, the grandparents, the two neighbours who drop in, or the household staff. And the adults are the ones eating full slices — a child will eat half a slice and go back to playing.

So a “twenty-guest” kids’ party is often thirty-five people at the table. At an average of 80g a head across a mixed group, that is closer to 2.5kg than the 1kg most people reach for.

Our advice: count every head that will be in the room, not just the ones on the invitation. Then work from the chart.

Our theme cakes serve the same as our plain ones

This is worth saying because it is not true everywhere. On a lot of theme cakes, a great deal of the weight sits in heavy fondant and sculpted work that never reaches a plate — so you pay for 1.5kg and cut nine slices out of it.

Ours are decorated lightly. A 1.5kg theme cake from us serves the same twelve to fifteen people a 1.5kg plain cake does. The weight you order is the cake you get.

If you want to stretch the table further

A box of cupcakes alongside a smaller cake often works better than one very large cake. You get the cutting moment you want, plus something for the guests who arrive late or want a second helping. Our themed cupcakes can be matched to the same design as the cake.

It also travels better. A 3kg cake is a serious object to move across Bengaluru traffic.

Five things to check before you order

    1. Count confirmed heads, not the invite list, and include the adults who will stay.
    2. Add ten to fifteen per cent if it’s a wedding or a function where people bring guests.
    3. Check whether there is a dessert table. If there is, you can go a size down.
    4. Think about the photographs. A slightly taller cake photographs better at the cutting moment, even if the slice count is the same.
    5. If you are between two sizes, go up. Cake keeps for five days refrigerated in an airtight container. Running out at the cutting does not keep at all.

    Questions we get asked

How many people does a 1kg cake serve?

A 1kg cake serves eight to ten dessert slices, or six to eight generous ones. Every size we bake follows the same ratio, so a 2kg cake serves sixteen to twenty.

What size cake do I need for a kids’ birthday party?

More than most people think. If fifteen children are coming and their parents are staying, you have around thirty people at the table, and the adults eat full slices. For a party that size we’d suggest 2 to 2.5kg. If it is children only, 1.5kg is usually right.

What size cake do I need for 30 people?

Between 2 and 2.5kg. Go to 2.5kg if cake is the only dessert, or if the group is mostly adults.

Does a theme cake serve fewer people than a plain cake of the same weight?

Not with ours. Our decorations are light, so a 1.5kg theme cake serves the same as a 1.5kg plain cake.

Are your serving sizes the same for gluten-free and sugar-free cakes?

Yes. Every cake we bake is 100% plant-based, and the serving counts are the same across classic, gluten-free, refined sugar-free and sugar-free.

Should I order one large cake or a cake plus cupcakes?

For anything above about thirty guests, a smaller cake with a box of cupcakes alongside often works better. You still get the cutting moment, and there is something for guests who arrive late. We can match the cupcake design to the cake.

What if I’m between two sizes?

Go up. Cake keeps for five days refrigerated in an airtight container. Running short during the cutting is the one thing you cannot fix on the day.

How far ahead should I order?

Theme cakes need one to two days. During wedding season and around festivals, give us a week for anything multi-tier or over 3kg.

Still not sure? Message us on WhatsApp with your guest count and the occasion, and we’ll tell you what we’d order.
